Under the agreement, McKinsey must establish a fund to reimburse insurers, private benefit plans and others for some or all of their prescription opioid costs.

The settlement says that $558.9 million will be used to "remediate the harms caused to the settling states and their citizens by the opioid epidemic."

McKinsey is the latest major American corporation to face legal, financial and public relations peril stemming from its role in the nation's deadly opioid epidemic.
