A Florida bill that would allow people to file wrongful death lawsuits over the death of an "unborn child" was recently been pulled by its Republican sponsor.

The bill would have added the term “unborn child” to the state’s wrongful death statute, allowing parents to sue if a wrongful act causes the loss of a pregnancy.

The bill seeks to prevent kids from creating accounts on “addictive” platforms. Sen. Erin Grall likens social media use to drug use. Opponents express concern about First Amendment rights.

Bill supporters say that social media platforms are addictive and harmful to the mental health of children. Critics are concerned about the First Amendment and parental rights.

The proposals would direct state agencies to maintain a website that provides “information and links to public and private resources for expectant families and new parents.”

The vote was mostly along party lines, with two Republicans joining Democrats in opposition. The measure still must pass the House before going to the governor.
