Wildlife Officials Concerned for Sparrow, Tortoises

USFWS

The federal U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is starting a captive breeding program to save the Florida grasshopper sparrow, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Meantime, as the Florida Current reports, the state Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has revised the rules for relocating gopher tortoises to protected sites.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
