St. Petersburg cardiologist David Mokotoff offers alighthearted rant, published on the physicians' blog KevinMD.com, against the many ways that corporate hospital systems misuse physicians' time, making them unproductive and driving them crazy.
His cardiology group deals with four different hospital systems, all of which have different electronic health record systems -- some decent, some not.
Particularly irksome is that some systems still don't have voice recognition software for doctors to dictate their reports. That means they have to type them, since there are no longer assistants to do that sort of work.
If he has to type his own records, he argues, at least hospitals should offer a place for him to sit down and a wet wipe next to the keyboard.
