South Florida: No Backyard Gun Ranges

A state law that allows gun ranges on private property is being challenged by South Florida lawmakers who say regulation is needed to make their communities safer, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

Sunrise Mayor Mike Ryan is asking the state to allow cities to enact their own restrictions on gun use, even on private property. Right now, local elected officials who do so face a $5,000 fine and removal from office.
On Tuesday, the Sunrise commission proposed a resolution which would grant cities authority to enforce gun restrictions, and Ryan has since forwarded the resolution to to the Broward League of Cities and the Florida League of Cities, the Sun Sentinel reports.

Others, such as Boynton Beach Mayor Jerry say the current law is unsafe and needs to be regulated, and are joining in Ryan’s crusade, which also includes lawmakers in Boynton Beach, Southwest Ranches and Hallandale Beach.
