Is it possible to slow down the aging process and feel healthier as you get older? The Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter is hoping to find out. Scripps Florida has been awarded a $10.6 million grant from the National Institute on Aging, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports. Scripps scored well in a peer review process to receive the grant. Breakthroughs by Scripps Florida scientists include advancements and research on Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease and nicotine addiction.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
