School District Stops Distributing Condoms

Alachua County Public Schools can no longer give out condoms to students with instructions on how to use them, the Gainesville Sun reports.

The district superintendent this fall stopped the practice, where high school students could go to a school nurse’s office and ask for condoms. They would receive a brown paper bag with condoms, instructions and other information, the Sun reports. 

The district’s School Health Services Handbook says Florida statutes mandate teaching abstinence, but that students feel comfortable approaching their school nurse for sex education questions, according to the Sun
