A report from America’s Health Insurance Plans shows that of out-of-network fees can be as much as 100 times greater than what Medicare pays, the New York Times reports.
The report pegs Florida as one of the worst offenders, according to the Times.
A graphic in the report, which called the prices "exorbitant" and “excessively high” shows the difference in price for several procedures in Florida, from a colonoscopy and biopsy (21 times more expensive) to tissue exam by a pathologist (70 times more expensive).
Meanwhile, doctors have called the report an inaccurate representation of their billing, the Times reports.
