The health care company under contract at most of Florida's state prisons was fined $22,500 after the Florida Department of Corrections found the firm did not meet expectations set by their contract, the Ocala Star Banner reports.

An audit of Corizon Health revealed that employees failed to: maintain proper records, provide regular mental health counseling to inmates, and meet recently enacted federal standards, according to the Star Banner. Prisons in which violations were found include Apalachee East and West, Sumter, Baker, Liberty, Columbia, Polk, and Hernando.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
