Two more flu-related deaths have been reported in Orange County, the Orlando Sentinelreports. The most recent deaths include a child and a 54-year-old woman who worked in the auditing department at Florida Hospital.
The woman, Mary Lamb, had the H1N1 strain of the flu and spent 18 days on a respirator before dying, her husband said. That strain also has been linked to the deaths of two women in their 30s in Brevard County.
According to Orange County health officials, the child who died had “underlying health conditions.” The department tracks pediatric flu deaths -- but not adult deaths. Neither of the Orlando patients who died had received a flu shot, the Sentinel reports.
Meanwhile, the University of Florida has exhausted its supply of flu shots, the Gainesville Sun reports. UF received another order of flu vaccines this week in response to the severity of this year’s flu. UF Health Shands Hospital reported 12 deaths related to the flu. Five were people younger than 40.
Across the state in Broward County, two more adults have died recently from complications related to the flu.
