Judge: Halifax Didn’t Break Kickback Law

A federal judge says the way Halifax Health pays physicians doesn’t violate anti-kickback laws, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal. The ruling will bolster the hospital’s claims that it did not maintain illegal contracts or improperly admit patients. Halifax’s director of physician services filed a whistleblower complaint in 2009. The hospital has spent $15 million preparing its defense, the News-Journal said.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
