Hulk Hogan Sues Laser Spine Institute

AP

Wrestler Hulk Hogan is suing the Laser Spine Institute in Tampa, saying a series of surgeries he had there actually made his back problems worse, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Because the treatments were ineffective, the wrestler says, he was kept out of the ring and lost out on $50 million in income, the Times reports.

The wrestler, whose legal name is Terry Bollea, was inspired to go after Laser Spine after reading an article by Bloomberg News in May 2011 that reported on more than a dozen medical malpractice lawsuits against the company.

On its website and in many advertisements and commercials, the institute says back-pain  patients get speedy recovery from “minimally invasive” procedures.

The Hulk is also irked by Laser Spine using his photo and touting his surgeries as a success story in marketing materials, the Times reports.
