The top House health care budget writer may try to privatize the Agency for Health Care Administration’s legal staff, the Scripps Howard/Tampa Tribune Capitol Bureau reports.
State Rep. Matt Hudson, R- Naples, said there is precedent, in that AHCA already contracts with the Attorney General’s Office and hires outside legal help.
By outsourcing the whole thing, Hudson said, the state could save nearly $5.1 million, the Scripps/Tribune bureau reports.
Meanwhile, two bills that agency secretaries might not like sailed unanimously through the House Government Operations Subcommittee on Tuesday, the Florida Currentreports.
Under HB 7001by Rep. David Santiago, R-Deltona, agencies would be required to submit reports to the legislature each year explaining what efforts they made to implement new laws.
Under HB 1385by Rep. Dan Raulerson, R-Plant City, the state's chief inspector general would be subject to Senate confirmation after appointment by the governor. And agencies that report to the governor and Cabinet would have to give 21 days' notice before dismissing their own inspectors general.
