FL: 11th in Drug Overdose Deaths

The state of Florida has the 11th highest rate of drug overdose deaths in the country, the Orlando Sentinel reports, at 16.4 deaths per 100,000. The national report from Trust For America’s Health said most of the overdoses were from prescription drugs, and noted Florida has put in place several strategies that are helping reduce the number of deaths from overdosing on prescription pills.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
