Ex-Pediatrician Sentenced In Pill Mill Case

A former doctor described as “extraordinarily kind” in his pediatric practice was sentenced to nearly six years in prison Tuesday for illegally prescribing oxycodone. Scott Becker admitted prescribing close to one million pills during a seven-month period, according to the South Florida Sun Sentinel. Becker found the job at All Pain Management Clinic on Craigslist. He said he had clues it was a criminal enterprise, such as patients supposedly in pain giving him “a standing ovation” and being paid daily with an envelope full of cash.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
