Patients will bear the cost if the Florida Board of Medicine moves forward with plans to increase the cost of medical record copies to $1 a page, the Tampa Bay Times says in an editorial.

It’s been about a year since the Board began debating the patient cost increase, from 25 cents a page. While the $1-a-page fee is what hospitals and attorneys now pay, the Times argues that the increase for consumers is “nonsensical,’’ especially because the rule would apply to electronic copies as well.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
