Hillsborough County’s court is going to the dogs - and not just any dog.

Tibet, a Labrador-golden retriever mix, will be the first facility dog in Florida that helps abused, neglected and abandoned children while they are in the court system, according to The Tampa Tribune.

There are currently 51 such dogs in 21 states. The non-profit Canine Companions for Independence spends two years training the facility dogs.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
