Chief of Sex-Predator Program Resigns

The administrator of Florida’s Sexually Violent Predator Program resigned Thursday after reporters from the South Florida Sun-Sentinelraised questions about his record and views he expressed about the importance of liberty, even for sex offenders.  While Dan Montaldi worked as the program’s director, the state saw a dramatic drop in the number of predators being identified, as the Sun-Sentinel previous reported. The program has been under scrutiny since the abduction, rape and murder of 8-year-old Cherish Perrywinkle.  A registered sex offender who had been released from state custody is accused of the crime.
