Capitol: Protecting Florida’s Children

Part of the plan to reform Florida’s child-welfare system would update the financial and accountability rules  for the organizations that provide adoption, foster care and case-management services, the News Service of Florida reports.

The proposal from the Senate Children, Families and Elder Affairs Committee calls for the Department of Children and Families to track the state’s 19 community-based care lead agencies, also known as CBCs.

Meanwhile, a package of several bills that would strengthen Florida’s sex offender laws is moving forward in both the House and Senate, Sunshine State Newsreports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
