At The Capitol: Health Agencies Submit Budgets

Several health agencies submitted their budget proposals to the Senate Health and Human Services Appropriations Subcommittee, the Florida Current reports.

Not all of the funds would come from the state, particularly for the Agency for Health Care Administration, which receives more than half of its funding from the federal government. The Current reports that AHCA is requesting a slightly smaller budget than last year, which was about $22.3 billion.

The Department of Health, which was down-sized last year, is also asking for less money.

A look at what the agencies are asking for:
Agency for Health Care Administration: $21,884,023,165 (last year: $22,278,887,448)
Agency for Persons with Disabilities: $1,070,734,521 (last year: $1,073,981,439)
Department of Health: $2,755,521,244 (last year: $2,786,638,810)
Department of Veterans' Affairs: $85,115,642 (last year: $84,446,427)

In addition to the budget proposals, others were in Tallahassee to push their interests. The mother of Trayvon Martin urged lawmakers to repeal the “stand your ground” law, according to the Tampa Bay Times. Also, the Florida Chamber of Commerce  lobbied against sick-time measures proposed by some local governments, the Orlando Sentinel reports.
