Calif.: Few Issues with Medical Marijuana

In California communities that developed strict regulations for medical marijuana dispensaries, there have been few problems, the New York Times reports. Medical marijuana has been legal there for 17 years, and researchers say fears of increased lawlessness and use of other drugs have not been realized.

Still, law enforcement agencies lament the amount of time and money they have to spend on regulating growers and stores. Medical marijuana is legal in 20 states, and in Florida, as Tampa Bay Times columnist John Romano writes, the battle over legalizing it is intensifying.
