Actions at 3 State Agencies Draw Scrutiny

The Department of Children and Families Deputy Secretary Suzanne Vitale ignored the recommendation of a negotiating team and chose the more expensive company to upgrade and run the Medicaid eligibility system, the Florida Current reports.

Meanwhile, the Department of Elder Affairs is being sued by a former employee who says the agency skipped required background checks and covered up the criminal record of a political appointee recommended by the governor’s former chief of staff, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

And the federal government says the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration owes $12.2 million in overpayments over three years, the Associated Press reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
