‘Academic Doping’ Increases

More students are illegally using medicine meant to treat attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder to give them a boost when studying, the Orlando Sentinel reports. It’s called “academic doping,” and at the University of Central Florida, 10 percent of students admit to illegally using the stimulants meant to help with ADHD. Across the country, about a third of undergraduates say they’ve used drugs like Adderall, according to a study from the National Institutes of Health.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
