More than 35,000 Florida residents have lost the health insurance they enrolled in under the federal health law because they didn’t prove U.S. citizenship or legal residency status by Sept. 5, the Miami Heraldreports.

Florida had more at risk of losing their coverage than any other state, as the Associated Pressreported. About 58,700 in Florida did provide the documentation by the deadline to keep their coverage, the Herald reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
