Yaneli Gonzalez
Yaneli Gonzalez is a Miami native and a senior at Florida International University (graduating December 2017). She is pursuing a B.S. in Communications: Broadcast Journalism and a B.A. in International Relations. Her minor is in Italian language, and she has earned a Certificate in European and Eurasian Studies. When she isn't watching the news, she finds herself flipping back and forth between the Science and History channels each night. Late night comedy shows are the occasional exception.
In her first journalism class in middle school, she was inspired by the life story of 19th century journalist, Nellie Bly, and decided to pursue the same career. She got her first opportunity in high school writing for TeenLink, and has since contributed to the Sun-Sentinel, the South Florida News Service and the Miami Herald. She hopes to keep reporting on a variety of topics and someday focus on covering politics.
(Outside journalism), Yaneli is a Walt Disney World Annual Pass holder and loves taking trips there with her family, friends and even solo. Her favorite thing at the moment is dining at new restaurants, but she also enjoys watching movies, plays and musicals. When she has extra time, she likes to play video games on her Xbox (mostly Minecraft at the moment). She also jumps at any opportunity to travel and has so far been lucky enough to spend time in New York, Italy and Costa Rica.
