“Just as important, if not more significant”than the financial backers for and against Florida’s medical marijuana amendment, “are the stories of the people whose medical needs could be met if voters approve Amendment 2 and legalize medical cannabis,” public health activist Gary Stein writes in Context Florida.

“It is a precarious choice for these individuals to come forward to tell their stories because they are talking about using a substance that’s illegal, and a crime that’s filled our prison system,” said Stein, who shares his wife’s own battle with disease.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
