Alejandro Galvis of Aventura, a medical technologist and student in clinical research administration, writes about the outsized power of the pharmaceutical industry in the United States.
Companies have "the ability to write the price tag, and the insurance companies cannot deny coverage," he says in a column published by the South Florida Sun Sentinel. "With pharmaceutical companies knowing this, why would they want to bring the price down?"
Galvis calls for changes to laws to promote patent reform and negotiations with pharmaceutical companies on price on behalf of taxpayers, employers and consumers.
