Following reports that Veterans Affairs staff falsified documents on patients' wait times for health care, both Florida Gov. Rick Scott and his anticipated rival Charlie Crist have called for the resignation of VA Secretary Eric Shinseki.
In addition, Crist blamed Scott for many vets’ lack of health care in a series of tweets, including one that stated “41.2k vets in FL don’t have health care because Scott didn’t expand Medicaid."
PolitiFact looked at the claim, which was based on an Urban Institute study of uninsured veterans, and found the tweet oversimplified the situation. As Scott's office noted, the governor came out in favor of Medicaid expansion in early 2013; but PolitiFact said he didn't lobby for it so the legislature turned it down.
