Orlando Sentinel columnist Scott Maxwell says that Orlando Health CEO Sherrie Sitarik was unwise to cut the pay to night and weekend nursing staff and other front-line workers, given the much riper fruit that could be plucked from the juicy compensation of more than 20 vice presidents at an average of $340,000.

There's also the question of why the system is pouring $300 million into inpatient services at a time when smart health system executives are looking for ways to keep patients healthy and out of the hospital.

Happily, Maxwell says, the chairwoman of Orlando Health's board, Dianna Morgan, agrees.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
