Health News Florida has been offered an unusual opportunity, and we need your help.

We can get $25,000 in matching funds from a private foundation in Florida if we can raise $25,000 from our readers by Oct. 31.

If you're reading this, you probably understand the importance of non-profit, public-service journalism. You probably appreciate the daily gift of Health News Florida round-ups and original articles that break news.

But have you ever thought about how expensive it is to pay for original stories by experienced reporters? Especially by that select few reporters who understand how the health-care system works?

That $50,000 would pay for 100 original articles -- two a week for the next year!

Please help us raise the funds we need to thrive during the coming legislative session and throughout 2012.

The deadline is approaching fast, so we need your tax-deductible donation of:

• $5,000: Partner in Health Journalism
• $1,000: Patron
• $500: Friend
• $100: Supporter

. . . or whatever you can afford. Thank you for your generosity and everything you do to support Health News Florida.

You can send us a donation securely through PayPal! Or you can mail us a check, made payable to Health Foundation of S. Fla, and earmarked for Health News Florida:
