A Senate panel on health care spending approved a telehealth bill on Tuesday, but the issue may not be put on the agenda for the House Committee on Health and Human Services, according to Christine Jordan Sexton of SaintPetersblog.

Two amendments were added to the Senate bill: one that allowed for advanced nurse practitioners to order controlled substance for patients in hospitals and another that added behavior analysts to the list of approved telemedicine practitioners.

However, according to SaintPetersBlog, the chairman of the House Health and Human Services Committee, state Rep. Jason Brodeur, said he wasn't sure that legislation was needed to promote the use of telemedicine in Florida and the issue was not heard at the last meeting.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
