After a slew of negative ads, Florida voters failed to pass an amendment that would have legalized medical marijuana, the News Service of Florida reports.
Polling numbers from just a few months ago indicated extremely high support for Amendment 2, but those numbers dropped once Floridians were faced with millions of dollars in negative TV ads as well as opposition from sheriffs and Republican leaders, News Service reports. The results of the election show 57.5 percent of voters backed the proposed amendment, coming just short of the 60 percent needed to become law.
