Philanthropic groups have become well-organized fundraising machines for South Florida hospitals, raising millions of dollars a year to programs that are watching their insurance reimbursements and government support shrink, the Miami Herald reports.
For example, the 21,000 members of the Pap Corps handed over a check for $4.5 million to the University of Miami’s Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, supporting research and faculty positions, the Herald reports.
