Dominican Doc Arrested for FL Practice

An Orange County man was jailed Tuesday on charges of Medicaid provider fraud and unlicensed health care practice, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Wellington Liranzo, known as "Dr. Wellington" by some patients, posed as a doctor and treated patients at Prime Care Family Health Centers in Orlando despite not being licensed in Florida, according to the Sentinel. Liranzo, who told investigators that he was a doctor in the Dominican Republic, said “Dr. Wellington” was just as an honorific title, the Sentinel reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
