The U.S. Department of Justice claims a company with a Florida connection paid spinal surgeons kickback fees for using its devices, the Miami Herald reports (paywall alert).
The two lawsuits filed under the federal False Claims Act allege that Apex Medical Technologies and Kronos Spinal Technologies billed Medicare for devices used for spinal fusion surgeries, but the doctors using them were being illegally compensated, the Herald reports.
Both companies are based at the same Jacksonville address.
