FL Executive Diagnosed with West Nile

The board chairman of the Capital Area Chapter of the Red Cross is the first Florida patient to contract West Nile virus this year, the Tallahassee Democrat reports.

Bob Lotane is still at Shands Hospital in Gainesville recovering from the mosquito-borne illness, which his wife believes he contracted from an insect that bit him outside their home in east-central Tallahassee. Lotane is a vice president  with the Hill & Knowlton public relations firm.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
