A potentially far-reaching lawsuit has been filed against South Florida’s JFK Regional Medical Center and its owner, HCA Holdings, The Tampa Tribune reports.
The lawsuit accuses HCA, which owns 80 hospitals across the state, of grossly overcharging for medical services. Specifically, it accuses JFK Regional of sapping the Personal Injury Protection coverage limits of two emergency room patients, leaving them with thousands of dollars in out-of-pocket charges, The Tribune reports.
An attorney who filed the suit said overcharges were estimated to be up to 700 percent, according to The Tribune.
