The testing of 94 backlogged rape kits has begun at Hollywood’s Police Department, and three arrests have already been made, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.
Of the 94 rape kits, 51 were found unsuitable for DNA testing and 30 of the remaining 43 have been submitted to the lab, the Sun Sentinel reports.
According to the Sun Sentinel, a crime lab procedure led to the backlog. The lab would refuse to process evidence if a witness seemed uncooperative or prosecutors felt the case was too hard to prosecute.
