Hospitals: State Underpaid by $73.3M

Several Florida safety net hospitals have filed a complaint claiming the Florida Agency for Health Care Administration underpaid them $73.3 million for Medicare patient care over the past 13 years, the Gainesville Sunreports.

The complaints were made to the Department of Administrative Hearings, It challenges a Florida Administrative Code rule that creates a formula to pay hospitals for treating patients who are covered by Mediciad or need charity care, according to the Sun.

The hospitals filing the complaint include: UF Health Shands Hospital, UF Health Jacksonville Hospital, Jackson Memorial Hospital, Orlando Health Inc., the South Broward Hospital District and North Broward Hospital, the Sun reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
