The new interim secretary for the Florida Department of Children and Families has appointed a social worker as the agency's first statewide fatality prevention specialist, the Miami Herald reports.
Mike Carroll selected Lisa Rivera, who has been with DCF for 17 years, to improve the agency’s protection of abused children. DCF has been under fire in the wake of an investigation by the Miami Herald over the deaths of children who were under the agency’s watch.
The series was called Innocents Lost.
