Lab Error Cited in Woman's Death at 37

The widower of a woman who died at age 37 of cervical cancer is suing Laboratory Corporation of America, saying its lab technician misread his wife’s Pap smear slide, the Palm Beach Post reports.

Attorneys for John Wisekal claim that the technician failed to notice cancerous cells on his wife Darian’s  test results in 2008. LabCorp attorneys say the technician did nothing wrong.

Jury selection for the trial is under way in U.S. District Court in West Palm Beach.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
