Two ex-employees at Orange County’s health department were sentenced to prison for stealing patient information.
Shanterica Smith and Gerald Williams both admitted they were paid for taking information on thousands of patients, and giving the data to others, according to the Orlando Sentinel.
About 2,200 health department records were used to claim roughly $3.9 million in fraudulent tax returns, the Sentinel reports. Williams and Smith each were sentenced to about five years in prison. Williams’ brother, Delray Duncan, also was sentenced to more than 3 years for his involvement.
