She's Insured, But Still Must Raise $

The daughter of Tampa police officer who was killed in the line of duty in 1998 is enlisting support from her deceased father’s colleagues in her quest for a liver transplant, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Jones, 38, has autoimmune hepatitis. She health insurance that will cover all but $179,600 of the $314,000 transplant bill, but transplant patients must show some proof of financial means before being placed on a list, she said.  Tampa Police Chief Jane Castor and other officers are helping raise money, partly because Jones was an adult when her father died and she receives no special benefits.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
