Researchers from the University of South Florida say there’s oil from the Deepwater Horizon spill lurking underneath the water’s surface about 80 miles off the coast, the Tampa Bay Times reports. The researchers think oil plumes got caught in a major upwelling in the gulf in May 2010, and then moved onto the shelf off Florida’s west coast. The study also found evidence that the oil might have produced lesions in fish that live in that part of the gulf.
