State Sued Over 'Warehousing'

A disability rights organization has filed suit against the Department of Children and Families, saying it holds adult patients in psychiatric hospitals who could be moved into a community setting because there aren't enough places to move them.

Disability Rights Florida says that the state's three psychiatric hospitals are "warehousing" around 300  patients on waiting lists for community placement, the Times/Herald reports

The complaint can be seen here.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
