Following the death of a Miami Beach teenager, questions are being raised over the safety of Tasers, the New York Times reports. According to the Miami Beach police chief, Israel Hernandez-Llach was tagging a building with graffiti when police Tasered him.  A 2011 Department of Justice report found that Tasers are considered safe for most people, and said deaths are often the result of pre-existing medical conditions. There is no ruling yet on the official cause of the teen’s death.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
