Two separate Florida pill mill trials are winding down.  In West Palm Beach, a federal jury is expected to begin deliberations this morning in the trial of Dr. Cynthia Cadet of Parkland and Dr. Joseph Castronuovo of Key Largo.  The two doctors are accused of writing prescriptions for oxycodone that led to patient deaths.  Both face long prison terms if convicted, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel

In another case, former pediatrician Sergio Rodriguez has been sentenced to 27 years after pleading guilty to drug charges and four counts of manslaughter in overdose deaths, the Sun-Sentinel reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
