Is Miami-Dade Hiding Health Insurance Funds?

Several unions have accused the administration of the Miami-Dade Health Insurance Fund of hiding a multi-million dollar “slush” fund as employees are still asked to contribute 5 percent of their pay for health insurance, the Miami Herald reports. The county clerk will audit the health insurance reserve account, which union representatives for police, sewer and some Jackson Memorial Health System employees say has a $74-million surplus.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
