Competition Forces Pasco OB Unit to Close

Tampa Bay Times

Pasco Regional Medical Center, owned by for-profit Health Management Associates, will close its obstetrics unit Sept. 1, the Tampa Bay Times reports. The CEO calls the closure a business decision: The Dade City hospital can’t keep up with rising medical costs as more mothers choose to give birth at other nearby hospitals.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
