Woman Who Drowned Children Due for Release

Orlando Sentinel

Dianne May Evers suffered from hallucinations and delusions from the time she was 7.  On New Year’s Day in 1980, the mental illness led then 23-year-old Evers to drown her three daughters in their bath, convinced they were “better off in heaven.”  Found not guilty by reason of insanity, she spent the past three decades in Chattahoochee’s Florida State Hospital.  While her former husband feels she is still a threat, the judge disagrees; Evers may be released to a Miami halfway house, the Orlando Sentinel reports.

Originally founded in December 2006 as an independent grassroots publication dedicated to coverage of health issues in Florida, Health News Florida was acquired by WUSF Public Media in September 2012.
